Des Peres police Chief Keith Krumm said the man was driving by his business, Missouri Coin Co. Inc. in the 11700 block of Manchester Road, around 12:45 p.m. when he saw the suspects standing near the storefront.
Krumm said the owner confronted the suspects when one of them pulled a knife and cut the owner’s neck.
The suspects fled on foot in different directions before being apprehended by police, Krumm said.
The suspects broke into the victim’s vehicle and stole four briefcases full of coins, police said.
Police described the man’s wound as minor

He is certainly brave and brazen - I would have called the police, stayed back and waited. I hope he recovers - minor wound they say. These are desperate times and there are lots of unsavory folk who will kill or mame for just a few dollars.

And it hasn't even gotten bad yet.

The article says that the suspects were apprehended. Did the briefcases get recovered?

Was just at a coin show today. A few guys were walking around with briefcases. One guy in the washroom was nervous as hell, and well he should be. I'm kind of surprised many of them were walking around alone with the cases. Not a good idea.

Our coin show has an armed guard patrolling the floor. The next one is Mar 22 and I would like to go but wondering if I should keep a gun on me just in case (it's illegal to conceal carry here).

You not Lying Mick.

Just the Other night I was driving my car about 4 blocks away from house to get a slice of pizza I come to a intersection and I see a fluffy white pooch . No body in site so I pull up a block and see If I find the owner or at least get the dog out the street .Get within a few feet and he immediately takes off. I say to myself: Oh well at least I tried.....next thing I hear:

AYE YO!!

Way down the block is a lone Black figure(far as I can tell) I say: is that your dog???

YEAH.

Oh My mistake, he looked like he had gotten out the house or something (going back to my car).

AYE YO......LEME TALK TO YOU FOR A MINUTE.

What??

LEME TALK TO YOU FOR A MINUTE.

He was a good distance away but dam I felt the adrealine dumping into my system and the hair on the back of my neck started rasing. After he said the same thing a second time I didnt mumble another word I jumped in my car and took off like I was the missing memeber of Starsky and Hutch.

I drove in a zig zag pattern for serval blocks.

A few years back a pizza delivery guy That was a honor roll student was killed in the area. Make of it what you will , I dunno know But I dam sure was trying to find out.

Another close call like that ........ I will have to issue myself a CCW permit.

It is getting wilder quicker than I thought.

This in today's Pensacola paper---

Bond denied in slaying of Pensacola gold dealer

Associated Press February 16, 2009

BAY MINETTE Bond has been denied for a 32-year-old man charged with capital murder in the slaying of a Panhandle gold dealer allegedly shot during a robbery in coastal Alabama.

David Game Coombs of Loxley is charged with capital murder in the death of 57-year-old William Oliver "Bill" Grunden of Pensacola.

A judge denied bond for Coombs on Friday. If convicted, he could be sentenced to death or life in prison without parole.

Sheriff's investigators allege Coombs robbed Grunden, then shot him with a small-caliber pistol Jan. 29. Coombs allegedly set up a fake gold deal with Grunden, who bought and sold gold by weight.

Grunden's body was found by a deer hunter on a dirt road in a wooded area about 13 miles east of Loxley.

1. You dont leave your GOLD business close to 1am like this man foolishly done.

2. Since it is florida & it is not that hard to get a CCW he should of left his business cocked & loaded an with ALL to see!

3. Always leave at diffrent times, from diffrent exits & drive home difffrent routes!

4. you better be practically driving a brinks car or a car outfitted like the prez's motorcar!

I never understood why coin/gold shops did not have the bulletproof glass setup like some banks do.

12:45 PM is early afternoon, not just after midnight.

The article doesn't say how he "confronted" the four men. He could have been returning from lunch and just approached them as potential customers. If actually was suspicious of their intentions then it was rather unwise to confront them in a way that put him close enough to be cut.

Definitly get your self a ccw permit. You never know when you are going to need one!

A friend of mine who lives in Virginia was held up at gunpoint in the middle of the afternoon at an ATM. He was withdrawing $20 out so he could have a late lunch. Ended up face down on the pavement with a gun to the back of his head!

No reason for the coin dealer not to be carrying a gun! He should know he is a target and he should be ready to protect himself! For instance I went into a coin shop in South Carolina last summer. There was two guys who owned the shop sitting at each of their desks. On top of BOTH their desks their were TWO revolvers! One of the owners got up to help a customer and he had another revolver strapped to his side!

I like playing find and count the firearms at my local shop. There are always at least 4 visible one of them being a pump shottie.

That is what irked me the most.

If I just happen to walk into a situation like that....it would have been luck of the draw and my card got pulled.

But when Im trying to help a animal and I almost get robbed or worse that puts a REALLY bad taste in my mouth.

I will have to think twice before I offer assistance the next time.

A shame indeed.

I've been there a few times, really nice folks...

Glad he is alright and I hope they nail the bastards to the wall...

Did they recover everything??? Couldn't tell by the KMOV story...

This just shows crime happens everywhere, even the slightly upper class and upperclass areas..... Most of the people that live and work in this area would think it impossible for this to happen... They think crime only happens in North County and East St. Louis....

When I was younger and had a buncha associates that were into "doing Dirt", they loved places like that... Easy pickings as no one expects it...

It's a shame...people become complacent. This is what they get. They should be getting a CCW the next day. Hell, it Missouri...just like Florida. Hate to see this type of thing happen before they react. They're good folks...I always get my silver lunar's from them. Hopefully they'll be in good health AND that they've recovered the briefcases.

Makes no sense to me either as it appears that most coin/gold shops have more of value in them than your bank has in their vault.

In the GREAT DEPRESSION this happened:

Killed Ammunition sales in many even RURAL places;

Serious felonies rose like the stock markets of old - 400%;

They doubled the police forces by adding reserves (badges helped ONE to get around - kinda like martial law)!

WWII morphed into MUCH more the same - especially on the West (NOW very LEFT!) Coast.

I think all the above will rhyme times ten!
